Genes were shown to be induced by UVC through RT-PCR. Binding by LexA1 was demonstrated by EMSA with cell extract and its abolishment when sequestering LexA1 with specific antibody. Binding to other genes was established indirectly by EMSA competition assays with the recA promoter (labelled). Binding sites where identified through a consensus search according to the preestablished LexA-binding motif for Leptospira.
Regulated genes for each binding site are displayed below. Gene regulation diagrams show binding sites, positively-regulated genes, negatively-regulated genes, both positively and negatively regulated genes, genes with unspecified type of regulation. For each indvidual site, experimental techniques used to determine the site are also given.
