lacZ fusion assays showed that PsrA repressed aefR, activated rpoS, and repressed its own expression. Transcription start sites of rpoS, aefR, and psrA were identified by primer extension analysis. Visual sequence inspection of these promoters identified the putative PsrA binding sites. EMSA verified that PsrA binds to the promoters of these genes.
Regulated genes for each binding site are displayed below. Gene regulation diagrams show binding sites, positively-regulated genes, negatively-regulated genes, both positively and negatively regulated genes, genes with unspecified type of regulation. For each indvidual site, experimental techniques used to determine the site are also given.
