glnK-lacZ fusions in the wild-type and the strain lacking ntrC showed that NtrC mediates nitrogen regulation of glnK. DNase I footprinting showed that NtrC binds to two binding sites in the glnK promoter region. The same methods of analysis showed that NtrC directly regulates ureD and codB expression.
Regulated genes for each binding site are displayed below. Gene regulation diagrams show binding sites, positively-regulated genes, negatively-regulated genes, both positively and negatively regulated genes, genes with unspecified type of regulation. For each indvidual site, experimental techniques used to determine the site are also given.
