Putative Fur binding sites were identified by screening N. meningitidis MC58 genome with Fur-box sequence of E. coli. DNase I footprinting was used to demonstrate binding of Fur to the predicted consensus binding sites. S1 nuclease protection assay showed that Fur activated the expression of norB promoter. norB-lacZ reporter fusion showed that fur activates its target promoter directly.
Regulated genes for each binding site are displayed below. Gene regulation diagrams show binding sites, positively-regulated genes, negatively-regulated genes, both positively and negatively regulated genes, genes with unspecified type of regulation. For each indvidual site, experimental techniques used to determine the site are also given.
